Privacy policy
My Family Guard is run by the owner of the My Family Guard service ("we"). This page says what the app collects, why, who sees it and what you can do about it.
What we collect
- Your account: the name and email address from your Google sign-in, and what you add yourself: nickname, birthday, phone, contact email, photo, time zone. A parent can also set a person's role and gender in the family.
- What your family puts in the app: calendar events, tasks, shopping lists, the whiteboard, notes, reminders, chat and voice messages, photos, receipts, documents, pets, bills, and health information (emergency card, medicines, check-ups) if you enter it.
- Location: only when you choose to share it (for a time you set), save a place such as home or school, or press SOS. We do not track you in the background.
- Technical data: a push-notification token, the app version and kind of device, language, when you were last seen, and error reports. Visits to invitation pages are counted per phone with a short one-way code; no internet address is stored.
The AI assistant
When you ask the assistant something, your message and the family information it needs to answer (for example today's calendar) are sent to an AI service to produce the reply. We use Groq and OpenRouter, AI models that run on our own machines, and Anthropic as a backup. If you use "Auto" voice language, the recording is sent to Groq to be turned into text. The assistant can be wrong: check anything important.
How we use it
To run the app for you and your family: show your data to the people you share it with, send notifications and reminders, keep the service safe, count usage, and fix problems. We do not show advertising and we do not sell your data.
Who can see it
- Your family members, as the app shows: for example everyone sees the family calendar and chat, while personal calendar entries, your private assistant chat, and secret gift ideas about you are not shown to others.
- Connected relatives and mutual contacts see only what you choose to share with them (names, shared calendar, albums, chat with them).
- The service owner runs the servers and so has technical access to them. The owner console shows counts and technical information, not the text of chats, private messages, assistant conversations or personal calendars.
Other companies that help us
- Google (sign-in) and Firebase Cloud Messaging (push notifications).
- A rented server for hosting, and a server at the owner's home for video calls (calls are not recorded).
- AI services listed above.
- Open-Meteo (weather for the city you type), OpenStreetMap and Nominatim (maps and addresses), Esri/ArcGIS (satellite map pictures), unpkg (the map library), Let's Encrypt (security certificates). When you open the map, your browser contacts the map companies directly, so they see your internet address.
Cookies and storage on your device
My Family Guard does not use advertising or tracking cookies, and does not use analytics tools that follow you around. The app keeps a few things in your browser's own storage because it needs them to work: your sign-in, your settings (language, theme, which cards you show), an optional app-lock PIN (stored only as a scrambled value), and a temporary note of the link you arrived from. These are essential, so there is no cookie banner to accept. You can clear them by signing out or clearing the site data in your browser. When you sign in, Google's own sign-in button is loaded from Google and may set its own cookies under Google's policy.
How long we keep things
- Messages between people and the private assistant chat: 30 days by default, then deleted.
- Notifications: 30 days. Things you delete from tasks, events, shopping, reminders, notes, photos or contacts can be put back for 30 days, then they are gone.
- Other family content stays until you or a parent delete it.
- Nightly backups are kept for about two weeks, so deleted data can remain in an old backup for that long.
Your choices
- See your data: Settings → Me → Privacy & my data → Download my data.
- Delete your account: Settings → Me → Privacy & my data → Delete my account. Your name, details, contacts, reminders, location, health entries and private assistant chat are erased and you are signed out everywhere. Messages and items you added to shared family spaces stay for the family, shown as "Deleted user". If you are the only person in your family, everything in your family space (calendar, lists, photos, files, chats and so on) is deleted too and the space is closed.
- Correct or change: edit your details in Settings, or ask a parent. You can stop sharing your location at any time.
Children
Children use My Family Guard through a family set up and managed by a parent, who can see and change their details. Please do not sign up on your own if you are under 18.
Security
Connections are encrypted (HTTPS) and access is limited by sign-in and permissions. No system is perfectly secure, and stored files are not separately encrypted on the server, so please do not put in anything you could not accept being exposed.
Changes and contact
We may update this page; the date at the bottom shows the latest version. Questions, requests or complaints: Use Settings → Help & about → Send feedback in the app.
